In-school support for improving the quality of teaching, to include curriculum development and assessment, has been a key priority for Pathway Schools.
In response to this demand BCCSIP advertised for Expert Practitioners who would spend one day in a successful school and four days outreach working as part of a team in Pathway Schools.
Two practitioners have been appointed and we are now looking to recruit at least a further six. Headteachers who supported the interviews suggested that some local schools would have the capacity to release excellent teachers on a part-time basis to take on these roles.
Interested schools would be reimbursed for release of staff by negotiation (equivalent of approximately £300 - £400) and we would need them to be available for a minimum of two days a week. Staff taking on full-time secondments would be assigned to spend one day a week in their own school. Released staff would receive high quality professional development as part of the programme.
Identified staff will be visited by one of our Challenge Advisers who would observe their teaching and also discuss the role and their potential contribution with them. This would provide the necessary quality assurance.
