Black Country Education show

The Black Country Education show is taking place on Wednesday 24th March 2010 at Wolverhampton Racecourse, Dunstall Park, Gorsebrook Road, Wolverhampton, WV6 0PE. This is the first event of its kind and the aim is to show what the Black Country Challenge can do for schools throughout Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton.

This event will be a rare opportunity for headteachers, SIPs, governors and local authority education officials to be together in one room, share ideas and discuss how we can work together to continue raising the standards in the Black Country, as well as engage with the latest thinking on the potential impact of the 21st Century Schools White Paper. There will be information for School Improvement Partners to find out how their role is changing, how to get involved in the various programmes and what’s currently on offer from the Department for Children, Schools and Families.

The show will include an exhibition featuring a wide range of providers (see list below), including BCCSIP and National College. There will also be seminars and workshops running throughout the day covering a wide-range of topics from explaining how the Challenge is playing a key role in shaping the future of the area to more practical sessions on teaching and working with young people, as well as inspirational keynote speakers covering leadership and education.

School representatives who attend on the day will also be given priority for accessing the many free programmes that are available through Black Country Challenge. Schools will also have the opportunity to look in detail at the 2010-11 programmes that will be funded or subsidised through Black Country Challenge and express an interest in those which will best support their priorities.

The guest speaker on the day will be Olympic medallist and former World, European and Commonwealth champion, Kriss Akabusi. Since retiring from the track he has established a successful career as a motivational speaker, using his high energy and enthusiasm to inspire businesses and individuals around the world.

The event is free to attend and is open to anyone involved in teaching or with an interest in the schooling of young people in the area. Doors will open at 9am and will close at 3:30pm. Refreshments will be served throughout the day and buffet lunch will be available from 11am onwards. For further details and to book a place please download the Invitation letter and fax back form below.
