Staff development and senior management consultancy sessions with Mick Waters
The Black Country Challenge is fortunate to have Mick Waters working with us to help to achieve our aims. Mick has wide experience in schooling at national level as a former director of curriculum at QCDA. He is in high demand for contributions to conferences and speaks at national and international events. He helps teachers to think again about their work in classrooms and always relates his talks directly to the learning of young people.
Many Black Country Schools have asked if Mick can work with them on closure days or staff development sessions but the demand will exceed capacity. Mick is speaking at local authority conferences by invitation and is trying to help where he can. He is also working on some of the Black Country Challenge programmes organised by BCCSIP.
As a school, there are two possible ways you can get some of Mick’s time during the next year.
1. Staff training day conferences
We are making dates available for Mick to speak at 15 staff conferences for a morning or an afternoon session. The condition is that there has to be an audience of at least 200 people. This means that most schools will need to work with other schools in the spirit of the Black Country Challenge. The organising school needs to agree to take responsibility for arranging the venue and for setting up technology of good quality to help the session to work well. The organising school will also agree to arrange communication with the other schools.
The conferences can be for a set of primary schools, a secondary and its partner primary schools or a couple of secondary schools. The session will be tailored to the audience.
2. Senior staff leadership seminars
Mick will work with senior staff teams on individual school agendas on a twilight basis for 2 hours. Available dates can be negotiated to fit with school priorities and Mick’s schedule.
